Ganai inaugurates Handloom Expo-2015 | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 11: 15 days National Handloom Expo-2015 was inaugurated by the Financial Commissioner Industries and Commerce Department, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai as Chief Guest at Dussehra Ground, here today. Director Handloom Department, T Angchuk, Director Information and Public Relations Mukhtar-ul-Aziz, Director Industries and Commerce, Abdul Rashid, Director Handicrafts Tariq Ganai, Deputy Director Handloom Department Namrita Dogra besides other senior officers of Industries and Commerce department were present on the occasion. The affair started with the bouquet presentation to the dignitaries and lightened of the lamp by the chief guest. In his address lauded the efforts of Handloom Department for organizing such events which provides a platform for the Handloom Weaving Cooperative Societies to showcase their products where general masses gets an opportunity to buy genuine handloom items. The Financial Commissioner said that handloom industry, the State's oldest traditional cottage industry has special socio-economic significance due to its vast potential for economic activities like the generation of employment and revenue. He said all the three regions of the State have unique specialties in this sector. He said in J&K Handloom holds enormous potential to create self-employment opportunities and bring distinctive improvement the in the quality of life. The unique selling point of the handloom sector is that it is highly labour intensive industry with low capital investment. |
