JAMMU, Feb 11: The Governor, Mr. N.N. Vohra, has convened an urgent meeting on 14thFebruary to review implementation status of the Road Safety Action Plan in the State, to be held in the Civil Secretariat, Jammu. The meeting is being held in the background of the large number of fatal road accidents which take place in J&K every year. The Raj Bhavan Spokesperson said that the meeting is being convened following Governor's serious concern about the recurring fatal accidents. It may be recalled that on the directions of the Governor, the Chief Secretary held the meeting of the J&K Road Safety Council on 9th February, 2015. The Raj Bhavan Spokesperson disclosed that in the year 2010, 1042 persons were killed in 6136 road accidents; in 2011, 1121 persons were killed in 6644 road accidents; in 2012, 1165 persons were killed in 6709 road accidents; in 2013, 990 persons were killed in 6469 road accidents; and in 2014, 992 persons were killed in 5861 road accidents. The meeting will be attended by Chief Secretary; DGP; Administrative Secretaries of Planning and Development, Finance, Home, Transport, PW(R&B) Department, Health & Medical Education, Housing and Urban Development; Divisional Commissioners of Kashmir and Jammu; IGP Traffic; Chief Engineer, Project Beacon; Project Director National Highways Authority of India, Jammu and other concerned officers.
