JAMMU, Feb 11: To commemorate the birth centenary of Begum Akhtar, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organized one day seminar on the life and contributions of Begum Akhtar today at KL Saigal Hall. According to press release, Padamshree Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai presided and Anjali Sharma, Director Doordarshan, Jammu was the Chief Guest. Haroon Rashid, Secretary JKAACL and Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary were also present in the presidium. While delivering her presidential address, Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai complimented Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages for organizing the seminar on life and works of Begum Akhtar in connection with the birth centenary celebrations of legendary singer. Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai said that her dedication, commitment and sacrifice in the field of Music particularly singing in the struggling period being a woman, made her stronger and despite of difficulties, she came up with her talent. In the paper reading session, Dr. Deshbandhu Dogra Nutan, prominent writers, scholars and historians were present. Chhaterpal, Dogri short story writer and scholar and Yogita Yadav, short story writer, poetess and scholar of Hindi presented their paper on the life and contributions of Begum Akhtar in the field of Music particularly as a Ghazal singer. N D Jamwal, prominent Dogri writer, poet, play wright and Artist presided the first paper reading session. Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary JKAACL presented vote of thanks and proceedings were conducted by Ashok Gupta, Editor Dogri. |
