Heavy rain, snow warning in J&K, rain lash plains in Srinagar | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 24: Heavy rain and snow warning has been issued during the next 48 hours in Jammu and Kashmir, whereupper reaches experienced fresh snowfall and rain in the plains, resulting in chill. The rainfall and snow disrupted normal life in the Valley, where the minimum temperature remained above normal due to cloudy sky. A Met department spokesperson said here today that moderate rain or snow would occur at a most places in the state during the next 24 hours. He said during the subsequent four days there would be decrease in precipitation from February 26. However, the spokesman warned that heavy rain or snow would occur at a few places over the state during the next48 hours. The upper reaches, including upper heights in north Kashmir, besides holy Amarnath cave shrine and its periphery, Sheshnag, Mahaguns, Pisso top and Panjterni on traditional and Baltal on shortest yatra routes also experienced fresh snowfall early this morning. After recording above normal minimum temperature, rain lashed plains, including Srinagar, in the Valley since early this morning disrupting normal life. Minimum temperature at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg continued to remain below sub zero though it remained above normal though the day temperature witnessed a dip today. The spokesman said against yesterday's minus 0.8 degree,it was minus 0.2 degree Celsius at Gulmarg, seven notches above normal due to cloudy sky. World famous health resort of Pahalgam also recorded 1.5degree as the minimum temperature, more than seven notches above normal. The summer capital was lashed with rain, disrupting normal life, as majority of roads were again water lodged. However, the minimum temperature remained six notches above normal though it was slightly less than yesterday. The spokesman said there could be rain or snow in thecity and the minimum temperature would be around 6 degree and 2 degree respectively. Qazigund, Kokernag and Kupwara also recorded four to fivedegree above normal as the minimum temperature. The minimum temperature at Leh and Kargil remained below freezing point. Against yesterday's minus 3.8 degree, it was minus 2.6degree at Leh while at Kargil it was minus 4.6 degree against minus 3.3 degree recorded yesterday. The spokesman said there would be light snow and themaximum and minimum temperatures would be around 6 degreeand minus 2 degree respectively. |
