Jammu hoteliers fleecing costumers, charging extra money | Tourism department sleeping in deep slumber | | Asif Iqbal Naik Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 24 : The people coming to Jammu from different parts of the state including the tourists from outside the state are being charged extra by the Jammu hoteliers, and at the same time being offered no services. They feel cheated as tourism authorities fail to keep a check on hotel rates and facilities given by the hoteliers to costumers. In one such incident, this scribe was also duped and cheated by the management of "Hotel Krishna Plaza" situated in the heart of Jammu town. The hotel management charged from the costumers according to their own will and convenience, thus throwing the rules and regulations to the whirl wind. The hotel management charged Rs 750 from the costumer for Room No 308 situated on the 3rd floor of the hotel building and offered all the facilities including TV facility and other comforts, but in reality the hotel room was equipped with outdated and faulty TV connected with analog cable connection which was banned by the government in hotel after implementation of "Digitalization" of cable TV services in Jammu District. It was not only the outdated TV set; the hotel room was also equipped with faulty ceiling fan, lacks mobile charging points and also lacks proper bedding. The indifferent policy adopted by the hotel management got exposed as the hotel located merely 200 meters away from Krishna Plaza offered better services including LED/LCD TV facility only at Rs. 600 with better bedding and other facilities including extension points for mobile charging. Many people who are looking for the hotel in the city informed the "early times" that hotel owners are charging extra rent from the costumers in sheer violation of the rates fixed by the government. "The hotel owners in a nexus with tourism department officials accord rent sanction for their hotels at higher rates which is totally dependent on the facilities to be provided by the hotel owners" said an official of tourism department preferring anonymity. He said that there is a need to form a high level community to probe into the sanction of rates for various hotel groups so that poor customers including pilgrims visiting Jammu could be saved from duping. When contacted Director Tourism, Jammu, R K Verma assured action against erring hotelier, added that in case any complainant comes forward with complaint, the action will be initiated against the particular hotelier.
