Govt response to H1N1confined to advisories | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 24: Strange are the ways of the state government. First it sits over a situation that has the potential to turn into a catastrophe. And, more often than not, its belated response is in an alien language. The state government has issued yet another advisory in local papers in English-a language understood by a section of the population of the state. The advisory obviously is meant for people who have access to the internet. They have visited hundreds of websites in the past one week to acquaint themselves for the disease. Some of them have ordered and even got the N97 masks, a luxury which the doctors and the para-medical staff of the state hospitals cannot even dream of. What about the majority of the population which lives in remote villages? Newspapers do not reach them and radio has not been used effectively by the authorities for the awareness campaign till date for unknown reasons. The authorities have proved it by their conduct that the commoner in a remote village is less important. By now the authorities should have rushed to places with the vaccine and the drugs to counter the deadly virus. The time of issuing advisories is over. |
