Judicial remand of PoK driver arrested with narcotics extended | | | S.Tahir-Ul Haq

BARAMULLA, Feb 24: Principal District and Sessions Judge Baramulla, Raja Shujhat Ali Khan today extended the judicial remand of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) driver Syed Anniyat Hussain Shah and a local trader Zahoor Ahmad Malla till March 5.The District and Principal Sessions Judge Baramulla extended the remand of Anniyat and Zahoor following the arguments from both sides since the case was listed for hearing today. The extension of judicial remand was done on the basis of FIR number 06 of 2015 lodged against the duo at Police Station Uri, under section 8/21-29 of the Narcotic Drugs Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Early Times learnt that in his order, Principal District Sessions Judge Baramulla observed that the Case Dairy (CD) file has been produced and perused and good ground has been made out for remand of accused to judicial custody adding that accused is remanded to judicial custody from Feb 21 to March 5, for a period of 15 days from today. The Principal Sessions Judge, Baramulla directed Sub jail Baramulla and investigating officer, to ensure conversation of accused with his family under rules. The counsel appearing for the accused submitted that Anniyat may be provided an opportunity to communicate with his family across the border so that they are ensured about his well being here in the jail. It is pertinent to mention here that government authorities on Feb 6 recovered nearly 305 packets Brown Sugar from an orange- laden truck coming from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad Road at Trade Facilitation Center (TFC) Salamabad in Uri Town of Baramulla district. However the consignment was coming from Mushtaq Mir of Mir Trading Company Muzaffarabad Pakistan which was meant for Zahoor Ahmad Malla S/O Bashir Ahmad Malla of Mohalla Mir Sahib Baramulla, RR Trading Company. It is also important to mention here that on January 17 last year, the security agencies had seized 114 brown sugar packets worth 100 crores from a truck coming from PoK at Salamabad-Uri, which was on its way to India. Which led to brief suspension of cross-Line of Control trade after police arrested the Pakistani driver of the vehicle. The driver of the truck Mohammad Shafeeq Awan resident of Muzaffarabad was arrested. In August 2013, police recovered cocaine worth Rs 10 crore from a truck, plying on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route, at Sheeri in Uri sector |
