7 years on, GDC Paloura yet to start construction | Administrative inertia | | Bivek Mathur
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 24: In what could be termed as a matter of shame for the Higher Education Department, the land for the proposed campus of Government Degree College (GDC) Paloura was identified in the Omar led Congress government but till date, the government has failed to initiate any construction work at the proposed site. As per the sources, GDC Paloura was operated from the building of Government Higher Secondary School Paloura since establishment for a long time until a land for the campus was identified. Following this, government shifted the Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) to its new building and offered the building of GCET to GDC Paloura as well as Government Commerce College Jammu to run their classes from the campus. In the meanwhile, the government identified land measuring 80-85 Kanal near Assruan area in Lower Bhalwal, Kot Bhalwal, Mishriwala, foundation tone of which was to be laid down by none other than former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah but due to some reasons, Omar could not reach the proposed campus site and hence the stone was not laid. Till then the matter is hanging fire and the campus site is being shared by both GDC Paloura and Government Commerce College Jammu. Students don't have a playground or garden of their own for any sports activity within the campus. With this, the branch of J&K Bank as well as the post office is also being operated from the same campus which adds to the woes of the students. Pertinently classes of BBA, B.com, BA Honors and M.com of the Commerce College are also being operated from the campus which is being shared by GDC Paloura and Government Commerce College jointly. |
