Swine Flu takes another life, toll goes up to 7 | | | Javaid Naikoo

Srinagar, Feb 24 : With another person succumbing to H1N1, the toll has gone up to 7 as the number of infected persons went up to 153. Chaos in Kashmir division deepens with each passing day following the outbreak of Swine flu which according to the authorities at Sheri-Kashmir-Institute- of-Medical-Sciences (SKIMS) today took another life, thereby taking the toll to six in Kashmir division and total seven in the state. Sources said that one more patient expired today due to H1N1 infection in SKIMS who was admitted on February 9 as a case of Brain Hemorrhage and later tested positive for H1N1 also and 9 other patients are admitted in Isolation ward while as 2 patients are being treated in ICU and both of them are on Ventilators and critical. Sources said in last 24 Hours 15 more fresh cases of people were found positive for deadly Swine flu virus and amid huge rush of people visiting SKIMS these days for check up and treatment of H1N1 virus,230 patients were seen today in isolated OPD. Pertinently amid tall claims of health officials regarding facilities to patients and medical staff which include Doctors and Paramedical staff, one senior Resident Doctor at SKIMS informed Early times that despite so much of hue and cry still basic necessities which is Tamiflu tablets for patients, vaccination, much needed uniform to doctors and paramedical and important equipments of testing labs are though lacking but needed badly under prevailing circumstances. "Higher ups are enjoying administrative lawlessness and they have made doctors and paramedical staff as Sacrificial goats, nobody in real sense cares despite deaths after deaths, I don't think even SKIMS is safe for people visiting here these days, not even testing labs are safe and secure," source said Pertinently with fresh 15 more cases of today, total number of people tested positive for H1N1 reached to 153 in Kashmir division alone and number of patients tested positive for Swine flu with each passing days is increasing alarmingly in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions of the state. Following continued deaths due to Swine flu, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that authorities at SKIMS could have easily saved lives by warning people about swine flu threat earlier and the association which on Monday decided to file one Public interest litigation (PIL) against health officials said that SKIMS failed to assist doctors in dealing with H1N1 virus and made no efforts which could have saved community from swine flu mayhem. According to fresh data of the union Health Ministry regarding swine flu deaths and positive cases across the country, Swine flu has caused 841 deaths across the country since January,2015 with states likeRajasthan and Gujarat being the worst hit. The total infected persons across India has risen to 14,673 since January this year. |
