MLCs express concern over delay in flood compensation Council-2015 3/19/2015 10:47:43 PM Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 19: Issue of damage caused to infrastructure in Poonch and Rajouri districts due to recent floods and delay in release of necessary compensation for flood affected people was one issue which dominated the zero hour in the legislative council today. During Zero Hour, as many as 15 members raised the issues of public importance in Legislative Council today. Yashpaul Sharma, Dr. Shehnaz Ganai and Jehangir Hussain Mir, raised the issue regarding the damage caused to infrastructure in Poonch and Rajouri districts due to recent floods and sought necessary compensation for flood affected people. They urged the government to take concrete steps to tackle disasters. Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo, Firdous Tak and Naresh Kumar Gupta highlighted the issue of non-availability of ration and other essentials in Doda, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar districts due to road blockade owing to rains and landslides. They urged the government to issue the necessary instructions to the local administration to make arrangement till supplies are resumed. Dr. B. A. Veeri demanded boarding and lodging facilities for stranded passengers besides making arrangement for their airlifting while as Yasir Reshi demanded immediate rehabilitation of people of Gansthan area in Sonawari constituency which is still water logged. Jugal Kishore and Sham Lal Bhagat raised the issue of damage caused to 56 houses due to landslide at Choor village near Natha Top and demanded immediate relief and compensation to landslide victims and also urged to constitute a committee for assessment of losses. Ajay Sadhotra demanded adequate compensation to the affected farmers whose crops were damaged due to flood. He also demanded restoration of damaged power infrastructure in the area. He also raised the issue of yellow rust in Jammu. G. N. Monga sought attention of the Government towards situation arisen due to landslide in Laridoora of Baramulla and demanded immediate relief to the affected families whose houses were damaged. Qaiser Jamsheed Lone demanded early power restoration in Kupwara district, owing to recent landslides. Sofi Yousuf and Vibud Gupta raised the issue regarding reported irregularities in relief distribution among flood victim families and demanded accurate and transparent identification of losses and sanctioning the relief accordingly. Responding to the demands raised by members during Zero Hour, Minister for Education, Naeem Akhter assured the House that these have been noted and necessary instructions to address these will be issued to the district administration on priority.   Share This News with Your Friends on Social Network     Comment on this Story
