197 VDC members facing cases, FIRs in Jammu province | Highest 68 cases in Doda, lowest 5 each in Samba and Jammu | | Bivek Mathur Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 19: Village Defence Committees which were constituted as first line of defence against militancy in border and peripheral districts have been hit by controversies as 197 cases have been registered against the VDC members in Jammu province. This was revealed in a tabled reply in the State Legislative Assembly today. In reply to a question of Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) MLA from Langate, Government revealed that 197 cases have been registered against the VDC members in Jammu province, out of which, 03 cases have been closed as non-admitted, 02 cases as un-traced, 190 have been challaned and 02 cases are under investigation. Of the 197 cases registered against the VDC members, the highest 68 cases have been registered in Doda district with all cases challaned followed by 26 cases in Ramban district with two VDC members un-traced and 24 cases challaned. 23 cases have been registered in Reasi with one non-admitted case and 22 challaned followed by 19 cases in Udhampur district with 18 challaned and one case under trial. In Rajouri district, 16 cases have been registered and all challaned. Kishtwar district has 14 cases registered against the VDC members with one case non-admitted and 13 challaned followed by 11 VDC members facing FIRs/Cases in Kathua district with all 11 cases challaned. Poonch has 10 VDC members facing cases/FIRs out of which 9 cases have been challaned and one case is under trial. The districts of Jammu and Samba have least 5 VDC members each facing cases/FIRs with one case non-admitted in Jammu and four challaned whereas all five cases have been challaned in the Samba district. |
