Nomination in Legislative Council: Serious differences in BJP over selection of candidates | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 19: Differences seems be have cropped up in state unit of BJP over selection of candidates for the nominated seats of Legislative Council. Nominations for eight seats of Legislative Council have to be made by the coalition government. It is believed that as par agreement between Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and BJP, both the parties would share four seats each. Credible sources in the BJP said that leaders are divided over finalizing names of candidates for four seats from the quota of BJP. A group within the party is trying to get names of some new comers cleared while as another faction has argued that instead of giving importance to new-comers, party should give preference to those who have been working in the party since long. Credible sources said that a strong group with in the party is of the opinion that those party candidates who lost Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council elections should be nominated for these seats. "New comers without influence and links in Delhi have been trying to sabotage any move to nominate old workers. They are arguing that old BJP workers are neither competent nor articulated so it is better to give them chance to highlight party's view point in the Upper House", sources said and added that last decision in this regard would be taken by the RSS. Some Delhi based leaders, on the other hand, are trying to accommodate some Kashmir based leaders, especially a female leader to fulfill their promises. These Delhi based leaders are mounting pressure on local unit to give importance to Kashmir leaders because they had promised to properly rehabilitate these leaders. |
