After Radha, Ansari supports K traitors cause | Dangerous suggestion | | Early Times report
JAMMU, Mar 19: It was on March 14 that the BJP-led NDA Government reportedly decided to seek the views of the Jammu & Kashmir Government on the 2011 interlocutors' report on the state. The first person to commend the move was former interlocutor Radha Kumar. She appreciated the Union Government and urged it to consider the interlocutors' report, as it contains everything that is needed to end unrest in the Valley and resolve the Kashmir problem. She expressed herself in favour of the Union Government's move on March 15, a day after the Union Government reportedly took the decision. On March 16, her former colleague MM Ansari also expressed identical views and asked the Jammu & Kashmir Government to respond to the Union Government on the interlocutors' report. Condemning the NC-Congress coalition government for not doing anything as far as their report was concerned, he said: "The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coalition government in the State should respond positively to New Delhi about its stand on the report submitted by the three-member group of interlocutors". He added that the report "suits" the state. "The recommendations which we made suit the interests of the State," said Ansari, who is the Convener Kashmir Policy and Strategy Group, which is based in Delhi. "We had recommended that Article 370 be given a special status instead of temporary," he also said, adding the "BJP has now also toned down on Article 370, which anyway cannot be abrogated". The report had recommended that the word "Temporary" for Article 370 should be replaced with word "Special". Some other recommendations of theirs included special status to the State, amendment of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), release of prisoners detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), appointment of a judicial commission to supervise "identification of bodies buried in unmarked graves", vacation of buildings under the occupation of the Army and paramilitary forces and so on. Not only this, the report had also suggested "fostering economic and cultural ties with Pakistan, besides working jointly on water resources and power". The fact is that the interlocutors had made recommendations which suited Kashmir and Kashmiri separatists and communalists as well as Pakistan. There was nothing in the report which could even remotely promote the national cause in Kashmir and empower the neglected region and neglected social groups in the state. The report had been roundly condemned in Jammu and Ladakh. That's the reason that the Congress-led UPA Government didn't take any action on the atrocious interlocutors' report. It is hoped that the PDP-BJP coalition government in the state and the BJP-led NDA Government at the centre would follow in the footsteps of the UPA Government and not open pandora's box by working on the interlocutors' report. |
