Kahin hai andhera, Ujala kahin hai | City hospitals overstaffed, countryside without medicos | | Bashir Assad Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 19: Two things are identical in Jammu and Srinagar cities. Hospitals in both the capital cities are overstaffed while as the rural population cries for Medicare. But health care is not the only sector. Education department too is suffering from the same attachment syndrome . The teachers particularly the wives of influential officers and babus are posted in rural areas on papers, however, attached in twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar for their convenience. Here is a tip of the iceberg. In Gandinagar hospital against 3 posts of sanctioned dentists 12 people are working which means 9 dentists are attached in the hospital. Similarly there are only 3 posts of medicine while the number of doctors in this category stand at 5. 5 anesthesia doctors are working against 2 sanctioned posts. There are 15 assistant surgeons in the Ghandinagar hospital against the sanctioned strength of 10. In Sarwal Hospital, the situation is by and large the same. But at the district headquarters C T Scan and MRI machines but no technicians to run these machines. In Sub centers and Primary Health Centers, doctors are nowhere. Affairs are run by the nursing staff, And in many cases the doctors particularly the lady doctors are related to influential people who have migrated to urban areas. Though they were selected on rural background and in many cases on reserved quota , they hardly attend the hospitals on regular basis. The detachment of the employees in the civil secretariat is welcome but what is required is an administrative order declaring attachments null and void in all the departments at all levels across the state. |
