Jammu, Mar 19 : Keeping a pace with the enforcement work, the field officers of Legal Metrology department geared up their inspections in whole Jammu Division to watch and protect the interest of Consumers.
A Total of 105 traders dealing with supply of Ration, Cement factory, Pole manufacturers, Petrol pumps, Kiryana merchants, fruit and Veg. sellers etc were inspected to detect the malpractices adopted in fleecing the gullible consumers in Distt. Jammu/ Doda/ Ramban/Samba/Udhampur/ Reasi/ Poonch, Kishtwar & Kathua. 31 traders were booked under relevant provisions of Weights and Measures Act/ Packaged Commodity Rules for violations like less weighment of Ration to the consumers, use of defective/ uncertified weighing & Measuring instruments, non adherence to mandatory declarations like MRP/PKD and other information on the goods which are being packed in the absence of purchaser.
On pleading guilty, the offences were compounded for a sum of Rs 34800 as a composition money with the assurance that the said offences will not be repeated in future, failing which their cases will be sent to the court of Law for stringent action. |
