KPSS lashes out at New Delhi, JK Govt | Seeks registration as per 1990 consumer list | | Javaid Naikoo
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 24 : The Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Samithi has said that the union government as well as the state government has proved useless for Kashmir pundits. The KPSS president, Sanjay Tikoo said the government must register the Kashmiri Pandits as per the consumer list of 1990. At a time when Parliamentary panel rapped the state government for halting the registration of Kashmiri Pandit families who had fled the Valley with the onset of militancy in the early 1990s while citing references of the associations of Kashmiri Pandits, 'Kashmiri Pandit Sangarsh Samiti Srinagar' said that state government is clueless about registration of Kashmiri Pandits for some unknown Reasons despite having means available with them about registration of Kashmiri Pandits in fair manner. "All successive central and state governments so far did nothing for Kashmiri Pandits and in a way proved useless except for putting forward excuses, isn't it duty of state government to consult the consumer list of 1990 of Kashmiri Pandits for their fair registration, be it is list of PDD Bill, CAPD records, water connection registration etc, how registration is difficult if done with Honesty."Said Sanjay Tikoo, Kashmiri Pandit Sangarsh Samiti Which one of our demands was fulfilled by successive governments, let these governments prove, we have unemployed youth who are highly qualified but doing nothing, we even face problems in getting an identity Card, certificates and despite living as migrants in Jammu and other parts of the country till date we still face lot of problems, added Sanjay Tikoo After parliamentary received complaints of the associations of Kashmiri Pandits about registration and issues related with registration, the Home Ministry according to details has advised the state government on August 25, 2014, to take necessary action so that migrants can get their migrant certificates and identity cards on time and rejected the recommendations of state government that the situation on the ground has improved to such an extent that there is no need for registration of migrant families. The Home Ministry has said that in the view of the committee, this is the height of insensitivity as not only have they been displaced; they are also still unregistered, which practically means that no benefits will go to them. Immediate action should be taken in this regard. According to official figures there are about 62,000 registered Kashmiri migrant families in the country and about 40,000 registered Kashmiri migrant families are residing in Jammu, approximately 19,338 in Delhi and about 1,995 families in other states. It is worthy to mention that despite packages offered to these families by the government in 2008, only one family has returned to Kashmir Valley while government jobs have been provided to 1,466 migrant youths and 469 transit accommodations have been constructed in Kashmir. Pertinently parliamentary panel also called for documentation of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir in the form of a White Paper and dismissed the state government's objections to the suggestion as being orthodox and has said that it felt that though the various aspects of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir may have been well documented, all the facts should still be brought out in the form of a White Paper as part of a single document for public information. The panel also rejected the view put forth by the state government that it was not advisable at this stage to issue any White Paper on militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. |
