Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 13: The provide better facilities to the displaced youth appointed in Kashmir Valley under PM’s employment package, the Government has decided to construct 250 more quarters at migrant colony Vessu in South Kashmir district of Anantnag.
This was announced by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed while addressing a gathering of PM package employees during his maiden visit to Vessu today. The Chief Minister while acknowledging the problems of the displaced employees who were residing in shared accommodations in Vessu and other places today said that to ease out their problems the government will construct more 250 quarters at Vessu. According to sources the CM’s visit was prelude to identification of site for construction of quarters for the settlement of displaced Pandits in Valley. The Vessu migrant camp being one of the largest colonies where the displaced Pandit employees appointed under PM’s
employment package are putting up the CM first chose to visit this migrant cluster as to see for himself that how many more quarters can be constructed at this site which is adjacent to Jammu- Srinagar National Highway.
Sources said as the return of the displaced Pandits to Valley is top priority of Modi Government at Centre.
Sources said Union Home Minister Raj Nath Singh is taking keen interest on this issue as the Central Government is committed on the
return of displaced Pandits to Valley and there will be no compromise on the issue. The indication in this regard were given during the last
month’s meeting between Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and Union Home Minister Raj Nath Singh also and the two leaders discussed the construction of composite township for the return of the Pandits to
Valley, sources added.
However the issue snowballed into a big controversy with separatists including leaders of Hurriyat Conference and some main stream political parties openly opposing such a township within Valley and instead suggested return of Pandits in their original habitations.
Though earlier Union HM declared that such a township is on cards and the land for the same is being identified. Later the MoS Home took a U turn in Lok Sabha saying there is no such proposal for construction of township in Valley.
Sources however said that the Union Government is firm in its stand on rehabilitation of displaced Pandits in Valley and it is discussing the
cantors of same with various agencies. It has also taken the State Government into confidence and there is total unanimity on resettlement of the displaced Pandits in Valley between the two governments however the modus operandi of the same is to be discussed. Sources said the State Government however ahs some reservations about the construction of separate township in Kashmir and it ahs shown its willingness for the construction of clusters at different places.
