Grenade throwing module busted in South Kashmir, two arrested | | | Jehangir Rashid

SRINAGAR, May 13: Jammu & Kashmir Police today claimed to have busted a module of people involved in a grenade throwing incident in the Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Two persons have been arrested so far and hunt is on for the remaining members of the gang. Officials in the police department said that Awantipora police along with 42 RR busted a joint module of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) that was involved in a grenade incident of December last year in Tral in which four civilians lost their lives while as 23 others were injured in the incident. “On December 5, 2014 militants hurled a grenade in a busy market at Main Chowk, Tral when there was heavy rush of people after Friday prayers resulting in on spot death of a civilian and splinter injuries to 26 others. Among the injured two persons succumbed to splinter injuries later in the hospital while another Ali Mohammad Shah died after few months. Police registered a case FIR No: 121/2014 under section 302, 307 RPC, 3/5 Exp. Sub. Act in police station Tral and investigation was set in motion,” said the police officials. The police officials said that strenuous efforts were made to nab the culprits involved in this heinous act. They said that after painstaking efforts Awantipora police with the assistance of 42 RR succeeded in cracking the case by identifying a joint module of HM and JEM involved in the incident. “Subsequently, two members of the module Suhail Majeed Bhat son of Abdul Majid Bhat resident of Noorpora-Tral and Gulzar Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Nabi resident of Nagbal, Tral were arrested. During their questioning, they revealed that they were working for Adil Pathan (JeM commander) and Zakir of HM outfit and the grenade at Tral was lobbed by them at their behest to disturb the election process,” said the police officials. The police officials said that further investigations have also revealed that Gulzar is also involved in timber smuggling, kidnapping and various militancy related cases in Awantipora and Tral. They said the duo was planning to attack soft targets like guards and snatch weapons for which they were doing reconnaissance. ENDS
