DB issues directives in PIL over enhancement of Handicapped pension | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 13: In a letter written by Chairman Disable Welfare Association of J&K High Court regarding enhancement their pension, treated as Public Interest Litigation (PIL) , a Division Bench of State High Court Comprising Justice Hasnain Massodi and Justice Janak Raj Kotwal issued directives in this regard and also observed that State counsel stated that pension to Old age, Handicapped persons and Widows stand revised. After hearing the Division Bench observed that let the Government order issued in this regard giving details of the revised pension be placed on record well before the next date of hearing so that chances are explored to dispose of the petition. In the event, there has been significant enhancement in the rate of pension for handicapped the petition can be disposed of with direction to the respondent to review the petition after regular interval. HC directs DCs to order cutting of 'Russian poplars' in Kashmir Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 13: J&K High Court today directed Deputy Commissioners to pass orders for cutting of the Russian species of poplar trees in the Kashmir Valley. Hearing a petition, a single a bench of the court comprising Justice M H Attar directed that the Tehsildars of all the Tehsils shall be personally responsible for ensuring the compliance of the orders which would be passed by all the Deputy Commissioners of the Valley. "It is of common knowledge that the pollen of Poplar (Russian Species) is adversely affecting the health of genital public, mostly the elderly people and the children.," the bench said, adding, "Right to the life is a basic human right which is recognized by Article 21 of the constitution of India." Following large scale complaints of allergy caused by pollen from poplar trees, the Srinagar district administration last year imposed a blanket ban on plantation of the trees. The ban orders were passed by the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar who had reasoned that the pollens have become an "irritating nuisance" for the general public particularly for those suffering from chest diseases and the small children. The High Court further directed the Deputy Commissioners to file compliance report by next date of hearing in the week commencing from June 8.
Militant hideout busted in Reasi Early Times Report
Jammu, May 13: Security forces in a joint search operation today claimed to have busted a militant hideout in remote Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition including AK-56 rifles and hand grenade. "Based on specific information about presence of a cache of arms and ammunitions, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and police launched a joint operation today and busted a militant hideout at Kundradhan in Chasana tehsil of Reasi district, the Defence spokesman Jammu said here today. He said the recoveries from the hideout include two AK-56 rifles along with two magazines, 82 rounds of 7.62 mm Assault Rifle, a radio set and one hand grenade. "The timely recovery of the arms and ammunition has thwarted any untoward incident in the area," the spokesman said. |
