Sports & Allied News JAMMU, May 13: Five Sport Climbers of J&K, Mrityunjay Sharma, Shivani Charak, Shilpa, Aman Dogra and Muskan today returned after attending to a week-long advance training in Sport Climbing at Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi, the national body for adventure sports. A total of 17 climbers from Haryana, Delhi, West Bengal besides J&K participated in this camp. The camp was organised by IMF North Zone Committee for last year's Zonal and National medal winners. "Mrityunjay is a national bronze medallist, while Shivani is the reigning North Zone champion and Shilpa had won a silver and a bronze medal at the zonal competition last year. However, Aman Dogra and Muskan Abrol, the two other promising climbers of J&K, had also been included for specialized training as a special case," general secretary of J&K Mountaineering Association, Ram Khajuria told SAN. The aim of the training was to expose young and talented climbers at the international standard climbing wall and sport climbing gym and to impart them latest climbing techniques in order to prepare them for various national and international competitions. The training sessions were conducted by an international climber Sandeep Maiti and Gaurav Gupta. A sports medicine expert also taught the trainees about reasons for sports injuries and the ways to avoid them. Anil Kumar of J&K was the belayer of the training camp. "Since J&K climbers had been sponsored by Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, here the climbers on their return from Delhi called on the Director of the school Arti Sharma to express their gratitude for the generous gesture. She wished them all the best for the future competitions and promised all possible help in the shape of infrastructure and sponsorship for more such camps," further said Khajuria. |
