Bihar, Chandigarh tie for semifinals berth in Hockey | | | Sports & Allied News JAMMU, May 13: In an interesting happening two top teams from group-D, Bihar and Chandigarh Olympic Association today finished equal in their race for the semifinals berth in the ongoing Hockey India Vth Sub Junior National Hockey Championship at K K Hakhu Stadium, here. In their last league engagement, despite their absolute 20-0 win against weak side of Vidarbha, Bihar could not make it to the knock-out stages. In fact, Bihar was in need of 21-0 win, but they could hit the opponent goal post for 20 times to force the organisers to make calculations of goal average for and against. Now, to find fourth semifinalist team, the tournament director has decided to put both the sides of Chandigarh and Bihar to another test of penalty shootouts tomorrow at 5 pm to decide the group topper. Earlier, Hockey Patiala defeated Citizen Hockey XI 2-0 to qualify from group-C. Madhya Pradesh and Dadra and Nagar Haveli were already placed in the semifinals, which are scheduled for May 16. In the semifinals, Dadra and Nagar Haveli shall be playing against the winner of Chandigarh and Bihar while Madhya Pradesh shall take on Hockey Patiala. Meanwhile, in today's scheduled league ties, hosts Jammu and Kashmir suffered a 01-12 defeat in the hands of Chandigarh. Sanjay remained top scorer with four goals while Hashim and skipper, Sukhman Singh completed their hat tricks. The only goal from J&K was scored by Suraj Singh Jasrotia on penalty corner. In another group- C match, Hockey Patiala beat Citizen Hockey XI 2-0. Rahul and Sandeep Kumar were the scorers. Hockey Bihar also won their when they nailed down Vidarbha 20-0. Binit Ekka's marvellous eight goals and Sunil Mundu's spectacular four goals as also hat trick from Anthony Mudu scripted Bihar's big win. |
