RAJOURI, May 31 : Alleging usage of inferior building material to construct a diversion for runoff water, the headmaster of Government Girls Middle School (GGMS) Rajouri, situated in the campus of Chief Education Officer, has demanded an inquiry and action against the contractor concerned for indulging in malpractice. Pertinently for the last so many years the girl students and staff have been complaining that whenever there was rain, the runoff water from Municipality drain, which was constructed along left wall of the school building, enters the school campus/rooms and convert it into a small pond containing human waste, garbage and filth. Keeping in view the unhygienic conditions inside the school premises, the Headmaster Shabaz Khan is left with no other option but to close the school within a day or two as it was impossible for the staff and students to sit inside the class rooms filled with garbage. Despite several requests by the headmaster, the contractor didn't stop using sub-standard material including expired cement, alleged Shahbaz Khan. The contractor presently has stopped carrying repair work during working hours and has been executing work on Sundays and holidays to avoid detection of inferior material, he added. In the month of April Shahbaz Khan had approached BJP MLC Vibodh Gupta and requested him to mitigate their problem as despite several protests by the students and staff neither PWD officials nor district administration bothered to divert the runoff water. MLC Vibodh Gupta, along with Municipal officials visited the school in the first week of April and on spot sanctioned Rs 5 lakh with a direction to the MC authorities to start the repair work immediately. Khan today again approached Vibodh Gupta and apprised him about sub-standard material being used by contractor. Vibodh Gupta has directed the Municipal Committee officials to check the material and stop the work till further action in this matter. "In order to withdraw the bill/payment at the earliest, contractor Tajinder Singh has been executing work in a hurry," said the Headmaster. |
