In Kashmir encroachers don't spare even religious places of Hindus | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 31: Notwithstanding claims of government about honourable return of migrant Kashmiri Pandits to the Valley, encroachments on the Pandits' land and religious places continues unabated there. While government failed to restore the land of religious places in Wanpooh, Sagam, Bijbehara and other palces in Anantnag district grabbed by anti-social elements and land mafia over the years, fresh bid to grab the shrines and land has been made in Hangalgund village of Anantnag to construct a transport yard for parking of private vehicles there. According to sources several kanals of land belonging to Hangla Devi shrine and Samadhi of religious saint, Par Kak, in the village has been encroached by some anti-social elements who have come to settle in the village from other areas by filling the land to construct a yard for private vehicles. Though the authorities claim they have taken cognizance of the matter and two persons were taken to custody besides issuing strict instructions to people not to touch the land which belongs to migrants, Swami Mirzakak Ji Trust, Hangalgund has expressed apprehensions and demanded that the government should demarcate the shrine land in the village to keep the encroachers at bay. The Trust said that some years ago people from surrounding villages had also tried to encroach the land belonging to Dharamshala and Trust to convert it into an Eidgah which was resisted by the migrant Pandits of the area. Also, on the intervention of former Minister Peerzada, Mohammed Sayeed who along with the civil officials visited the area, the encroachments were removed in his presence. The initiative of Peerzada who represented the Kokernag Assembly segment at that time was hailed by the people from all walks of life who had firm faith and belief in secular values of the society. However this time again in the same village the miscreants tried to encroach another portion of land to convert it into a transport yard. The migrants from the village and living in Jammu, soon after coming to know of the happenings, sent a team to the village who brought the matter in the notice of local administration and MLA. The administration though acted swiftly, the migrants apprehend that the anti-social elements can do the mischief again and the administration should take concrete measures in this regard. The Trust has also given a representation to DC Anantang seeking his immediate intervention so that such forces do not raise their ugly heads again. |
