Early Times Report

Jammu, May 31: All Jammu Hotels & Lodges Association has expressed dismay over the "failure" of the Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh to turn Jammu into an independent tourist destination.
The Chairman of the association while expressing shock and annoyance over the indifferent attitude of the coalition government on the development of tourism in Jammu as compared to Kashmir said, "Jammu Cable Car Project and the Multistoreyed Shopping cum Parking complex with ISBT at General bus stand have come to a standstill after the foundation stones were laid. There has been no focus on the Suchetgarh Border Tourism, Development of Manda Wildlife Sanctuary in to National park with a Zoo of international fame. Fate of MubarakMandi Heritage Project is also hanging in balance and is all set to miss the set deadline. Coalition government shelving the Tawi Lake Project could prove to be a big setback to develop Jammu as independent tourist destination."
Khajuria said that with the rail link extension to Katra Jammu traders were assured by the state and central governments that Jammu would not be allowed to become Pathankot but the coalition government has failed to complete the ongoing Jammu tourism projects on time.
"Both central and state governments are concentrating on attracting foreign tourists to Kashmir valley. Deliberate attempts are being made to convert Jammu into Pathankot by derailing its economy with full attention and focus on Kashmir," he added.
A businessman wishing anonymity said that BJP legislators and ministers, especially Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh have let them down. "We had voted for BJP with a hope that it would represent the aspirations of Jammu people. Dr Singh's failure to pursue Jammu's cause and him becoming the yes man of the Kashmir based leaders has disappointed us," he added.
