Early Times Report
MENDHAR, June 1: A major infiltration bid was early this morning foiled by troops from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Mankote area of Mendhar, Poonch. Official sources said Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing at about 11 pm last night, targeting Chatri and Amla forward posts. India retaliated. The exchange of fire between the two sides stopped after about an hour. Sources said Pakistan resumed firing at about 12.45 am and tried to push a group of about 12 militants into the Indian territory under the cover of fire. While the intermittent firing between the two sides continued till 6 am, the alert Indian troops foiled the infiltration bid by the militants, the sources added. From 6 am to 10 am, the troops carried out searches in the area but nothing was found. This is the same area where troops had last month shot dead a Pakistani militant. Sources said the infiltration attempts by militants were likely to show an upward trend in the days to come. |
