Rajouri, June 5:Six new courses started by BGSBU in M.Sc Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, M.A. English & Economics & M. Ed. are being run by Contractual faculty members, in contravention of norms laid by the University Grant Commission, which clearly lay down that a new department in any university should have 1-Professor , 2-Associate Professors & 6-Assistant professors.
The recruitment process for permanent faculty was initiated but could not be completed for the reasons best known to university administration and till today no interviews have been conducted. As per the sources, the recruitment process has not been initiated because of the court stay on the advertisement but University can reportedly find a way-out to this issue by re-advertising the vacant positions according to the directions of the court and as per the recruitment norms.
"Teaching and research in the varsity is being hampered because of the dearth of the faculty in the major departments", said a source.
Even the faculty members working on contractual basis are being harassed by the University as they are not paid salaries as per the norms of the UGC. The other sister Universities are paying Rs. 25000/- per month to the Ph.D. & NET/SET holders and colleges are paying 18,000/- per month but BGSBU pays only 15,600/- per month.
" It is because of this anomaly that contractual faculty members don't prefer to join the university. Ironically faculty with high qualifications like PhD, NET/SET are working on contractual basis and those who are only post graduates or B.Tech only are working as permanent faculty and even getting promotions, " said a university employee expressing anguish. "For example in Economics department no faculty recruitment has been done so far & department is being run by faculty of MBA department." He added.
Similarly, Department of Mathematical Sciences has two programmes ; M.Sc. Applied Mathematics & Mathematics along with M.Phil and PhD and the department is being run by only three faculty members.
Above all the department of Education is being run only by the contractual faculty while department of English has two contractual and one permanent faculty. Centre for Bio diversity studies is offering three Post graduate programmes as M.Sc. botany, M.Sc. Zoology and M.Sc. Biotechnology along with M.Phil. & PhD programmes and the university administration has provided only nine teachers.
All the information was available on University's web site and few among the faculty members have been shown in multiple departments in order to aware the higher authorities that university has the required teaching staff.
Recently University has advertised for teaching positions for some new upcoming departments including Urdu and Centre for research in Pahari, Gojri & Kashmiri Languages while ignoring the dire need of faculty for the existing departments that shows the casual behavior of University administration. |
