Bhim Singh's concerns needed to be addressed | Larger picture and J&K | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 5: It was after a very long time that the founder of the Panthers Party, Bhim Singh, raised a very serious issue very seriously while addressing a press conference in Jammu on Thursday. There was no ambiguity in what he said and what he said was something very significant for the political future of Jammu & Kashmir. He was the first leader from Jammu & Kashmir who asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to explain as to what exactly he meant by the larger picture he talked about on May 30. In an interview, PM Modi said: "There is a larger picture there. We have to respect the mandate of the people. It could either be an elected government or Governor's rule. In the latter option, we would have had total control, but that is not what we wanted. It is a fact that the ideologies of the two parties are very different, but people wanted us to work together in both Jammu and Kashmir regions. The alliance in the state is one of the most important developments on the political scene. It has the potential to resolve one of our most difficult national problems through people's participation and good governance". Earlier on May 15, one top functionary in Jammu & Kashmir Government had also talked about "bigger picture, bigger objective and bigger canvas". He had suggested that the "alliance between the PDP and the BJP showcased the Prime Minister Modi's statesmanship" and virtually hinted that the coalition was charged with the responsibility of resolving the "Kashmir issue". President of state unit of the VHP Leela Karan Sharma did on May 19 expressed his concern over the statement, saying "something serious was happening under the carpet in Delhi as far as the future of Jammu & Kashmir is concerned", but it could not become an issue. Leela Karan Sharma had disclosed this during the in- camera meeting of members of the AIIMS Coordination Committee, which was held at the Bar office in the premises of the High Court. It was Bhim Singh who took up the issue in right earnest and urged the Prime Minister to inform the nation as to what he meant by a "larger picture". "The entire nation is worried and upset. Modi and others should explain their hidden agenda," he said. "The agenda could be followed in sequence that Organisation of Islamic Counties (OIC) in its irresponsible resolution in its meeting in Quwait demanded immediate referendum under United Nations for final settlement of J&K. This was an open challenge to India on its internal matters and integrity of the country. This was violation of UN Charter also," he further said. What Bhim Singh said cannot be ignored. His demand that the Government of India needed to explain its stand on the political future of Jammu & Kashmir was very appropriate. He has done a great service to the nation and people of Jammu & Kashmir by raising the "larger picture" issue. |
