USC appeals youth to maintain peace | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 5: Executive body of United Sikh Council (USC) appealed to the community especially the youth to maintain peace and desist from creating an atmosphere of hatred or put the public property to any loss or take law in their hands. A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Sardar Balbir Singh Senior Vice President at Digiana. President alleged that expressed concern over the arbitrary and high handed attitude of SSP Jammu who is responsible for the death of a young Sikh boy and indifferent and callous behavior of the police led to disruption of peace and blatant use of lathis, tear gas shells and firing on the peaceful protestors at Gadigarh. The situation was worsened due to the communication gap of administration and police authorities. "June 6 was already being celebrated as Shahidi divas for the last 31 years and for past many years there was no disruption from any quarter. But during last few days the police authorities has shown their might on innocent people & created a situation which was unwarranted for, "he added. Sardar Manjit Singh (Convenor) also took strong exception over the arrest of Sardar Kuldeep Singh president United Sikh Council without any justification and for harassing him as well as other members who were arrested by the police. United Sikh Council demanded that SSP should be suspended till a judicial enquiry is held to probe the killing of Sardar Jagjit Singh who was the only earning hand of the family. Besides the United Sikh Council demand for a Judicial enquiry and book the killers including the SSP and other police officials under section 302 and proper action be initiated as per law. The committee appealed to the authorities to release Sardar kuldeep Singh and other youths who were arrested immediately, so that peace can be maintained within the community. All the members further appealed all section of the society should unite in this hour of grief and ensure the wellbeing of the entire community. Among those who were present in the meeting included Satpal Singh, Amarjit Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Surender Singh, Harjit Singh, Paramjit Singh and others. |
