Agencies active for derailing peace in Kashmir | | | All is not well in the Kashmir valley.Attempts are being made to cre- ate added law and order problem which could force the police and paramilitary forces to retaliate. One sees s definite plan under incidents of violence, clashes between the protesters and the security forces, and waving of Pakistan and IS flags. What seems to be a stage managed affair is the way groups of people clashes with the police soon after they performed Eid prayers. These groups of people were seen shouting pro-Pakistan and pro-freedom slogans and at some places these protesters waved Pakistani and IS flags. These incidents took place in couple of places in south Kashmir and in the old city of Srinagar. One had expected people to celebrate Eid festival by wearing new garments and by feeding on various mutton delicacies and that too after a month of fasting. But those who had thought so were mistaken because groups of youth displayed more interest in clashing with the security forces than enjoying candies and cakes. In a couple of incidents in south Kashmir's Anantnag town several people were injured and dozens of vehicles damaged in violent clashes that erupted between youth and government forces in this South Kashmir town on Saturday after the Eid prayers. Reports said scores of youth hit the streets of old town and Lal Chowk and shouted pro-freedom slogans after the congregational prayers. They also pelted stones on the forces who retaliated by lobbing numerous tear gas shells. And since Friday Srinagar city's old areas too witnessed protest demonstrations in which groups of youth clashed with the security forces. There were a few among the protesters who waved Pakistani and IS flags.Well the Government had not imposed any restriction on holding Eid congregations in mosques nd as such holding of protest rallies were not warranted because there was no reason for doing it. It seems that groups of youth, keen to demonstrate their pro-Pakistan loyalties, have been motivated by the sudden increase in the number of ceasefire violations by the Pakistani troops on the LOC and on the IB during the last several months. The way Pakistani authorities have been dishing out threats of using nuclear weapons against India if New Delhi failed to resume talks for settlement of the Kashmir issue is said to have motivated the youth in Kashmir to measure swords with the police and the paramilitary forces. In addition to this the separatists have been egging the youth in Kashmir for induldging in acts of violence which could highlight the Kashmir issue in international fora. What seems to be pitiable is the way these very youth, backed by separatists, keep on raking up the issue of human rights violations whenever the security forces adopt firm measures to quell violence. After all the security forces will not be allowed to watch like passive spectators looting, arson and clashes with the police and the burning of scores of parked private and Government vehicles.Security forces have to act to restore peace and order.Possibly the youth in Kashmir is mistaken. These misguided boys believe that if they indulge in acts of violence Pakistani Army would come to their rescue by attacking the Indian border outposts. If such a support has not been available for the last 48 years how can these misguided youth expect the Army across the LOC to help them ?It will be in the fitness of things if the security and intelligence agencies identified the agencies behind the ongoing trouble in Kashmir so that they could be arrested. |
