 AKHNOOR, July 19: The star-studded side of Challenger Cricket Club Jammu today clinched the Summer Cup Akhnoor 2015 title outplaying hosts Singh Cricket Club by a comfortable margin of 48 runs in the final played at Government Higher Secondary School ground, here. First class all round cricketers, Ram Dayal and Manik Gupta played a key role in Challenger triumph in the title clash. Vijay Dogra also batted well thereby helped the side raise a big total. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, Challenger set a target of 223 runs for five wickets in 20 overs game. In reply, Singh Club could make 174 runs losing seven wickets. Ram Dayal played superb innings of 69 runs coming off 33 deliveries hitting eight boundaries and four sixes. Vijay Dogra made 15-ball 44 runs including five sixes and two fours. Ashu also completed his half century contributing 36-ball 52 runs. Manik Dogra added 20-ball 22. From Singh Club, Raman Dutta clinched two wickets while Dilawar Singh and Shubham Khajuria shared apiece each. Later, Singh Club could not do well despite the star striker and international cricketer, Shubham Khajuria to their side and exhausted their 20 overs for 174 runs for seven wickets. However, Shubham did not disappoint the crowd and hit fine 37-ball 67 runs studded with six sixes and an equal number of boundaries. Sunil Govil made 23-ball 31 runs while Jatin and Chander Kiran added 18 and 14 runs respectively. From Challenger, Manik Gupta bowled brilliant spell taking away important four wickets, followed by Somay Jain, who bagged two. Manjit Singh took the other wicket. For his all round performance, Manik Gupta was adjudged man of the match while man of the series trophy went to Ashu, who scored highest 249 runs in the tournament. The final was officiated by Vikas Bali and Dayal Singh as umpires while Shanky Sharma was scorer. In the title clash and prize distribution function, former Minister, Sham Lal Sharma was chief guest, who gave away the title trophies as also other individual prizes. General secretary, Press Club of Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal was guest of honour. Tournament was organised by Singh Cricket Club under the overall supervision of Sham Singh Langeh, chairman of the Club. -------
