5 injured in clashes between 2 communities at Bishnah | | | Early Times Report
jammu, July 19: The timely action of police after tension gripped Bassi Khurd area, that falls on the border of Bishnah and Bari Brahmana, due to clash between two communities, resulting in injuries to five persons, saved the situation from deteriorating. Of the injured, three belong to majority community and two to minority community. Police have registered a case and started investigations. Sources said that incident took place in the morning when three persons namely Ram Lal, Sanjeet Kumar and Ram Pal were on their way to work. While passing through an open spread of land in village they were intercepted by the youths of other community who resisted their passing through the said land. Police sources further said that objections raised by the youth were resisted by the trio who claimed that they have been passing through the land for the years together and no one has objected this. But paying no heed towards their statement youth allegedly thrashed them and forced them to go back. Angered over this, the injured went to their village and narrated the incident to villagers who also rushed to the spot while the members of other community also reached there. In the meantime, after getting the information police and other civil administration officers rushed to spot and pacified the situation. Sources said that police urged both the communities to maintain peace and harmony in the area who in return have assured to do the same but the situation remains tense as recently the two sides had locked horns over an annual wrestling event on July 3. Pertinent to mention that Baba Prayagnath Committee, which organises the annual Indian-style wrestling competition (dangal) in Bishnah, had refused to hold the event after the district administration suggested to hold the competition at an alternate land near the venue. In 2014 also, claims from two communities over the traditional venue of the dangal (wrestling) had triggered communal clashes. Baba Prayagnath Committee claimed about some 1,500 years ago, Maharaja SangramDev had gifted 293 kanals and 19 marlas to Baba Prayagnath, but the state government allegedly had entered the land in the name of the Auqaf in the Revenue records in 2009, sources said. |
