Early Times Report

jAMMU, July 19: Misuse of authority is not only a fiefdom or domain of high profile politicians or bureaucrats in the state but sometimes a fringe employee serving in Civil Secretariat, the highest seat of power, can dictate the terms to Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) in order to settle personal scores.
This is what exactly happened in Janglote area of Kathua district where a woman Noor Safia wife of Zakir Hussain who is an Army personnel and posted in Abohar claimed that she was beaten up allegedly by her brother-in-law Ashkar Ali serving in Civil Secretariat along with her father-in-law Babu Din on this July 4.
She narrated that her husband has 33 kanal of ancestral land which is still undistributed in Janglote where her husband constructed a house over 10 marla of land but her brother-in-law, Ashkar Ali and father-in-law, Babu Din prevented her from entering the house.
She alleged that their family had not shifted to the new house but kept the some household items there. "My brother in law and father in law prevented me from placing the household items and beat me up ruthlessly," she alleged.
She claimed that she was taken to nearby hospital and after preliminary treatment she was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) for advance treatment.
Safia further alleged that her brother in law always used to threaten her saying that he is serving in Civil Secretariat and no one including police can do anything.
She alleged that police facilitated her brother-in-law and father in law to lodge counter FIR against her including four others.
Safia further alleged that despite the fact that the local Panchayat had also given its decision in her favour.
When contacted Station House Officer (SHO), Kathua Saroop Singh said that counter FIRs have been registered in this regard but he denied giving detail about sections of FIRs registered in both the cases indicating that there is something fishy.
Meanwhile, DySP Headquarter Amit Kumar Sharma when contacted said that he has nothing to do with the victim family as today is Sunday and he is enjoying the holiday. While SP Kathua Neva Jain couldn't be reached for her comments.
