ADG to probe why SSP Goel didn't act against Tara Chand | | | SUMIT SHARMA Early Times Report Jammu, July 24: In a significant development, the government has appointed the Additional Director General of Police V K Singh as an enquiry officer to probe why the then Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Atul Goel had not taken any action against the former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chnad after his Public Relation Officer Kewal Sharma leveled serious allegations against him (Tara Chand). The Government Order No.279 - issued by Home department dated July 21, 2015 states: "In terms of Rule 8 (6) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, Shri V K Singh, IPS ADGP, Security, J&K is hereby appointed as the Inquiry Officer to conduct an enquiry into the charges framed against Shri Atul Kumar Goel, IPS (JK:2004), Superintendent of Police, National Investigation Agency and served to him vide O.M. No. Homel PB-I/PF/AKG/2009/2050 dated 18.05.2015. Shri Anuj Gupta, Senior Prosecuting Officer, Police Headquarters, J&K shall be the Presenting Officer. The Inquiry Officer shall complete the enquiry and submit his report to the Home Department within 60 days from the date of issue of this order." Sources said, the government has initiated the enquiry on the direction of the High Court which had directed the DGP to produce the entire record of the closure report filed by then SSP Jammu Atul Goel, who is presently on deputation with National Investigating Agency. Pertinently, Kewal during a press conference had leveled serious allegations against Tara Chand for his alleged involvement in objectionable immoral activities. Meanwhile, a senior police officer wishing to be anonymity said that after the incident, then SSP Jammu Atul Goel questioned Kewal Sharma as part of the inquiry. He said that Kewal backtracked from the allegations he had leveled against his former boss (Tara Chand) claiming that he was mentally upset and was under treatment. Based on his statement a closure report was filed. "The record in this connection would be produced before court as and when required," he added. |
