Says, he is not aware about agri-assistants are without salaries | Hanjura out to establish his writ | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 24: Taking cue from the BJP ministers, the PDP ministers too have started acting like "dictators" and are out to establish their writ. The Agriculture Minister and senior PDP leader Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, who had hogged the headlines for asking his security men to beat a journalist in city outskirts here last month is again in news this time for suspending the poor Agriculture Assistants, a charge denied by the Minister. Sources told Early Times since the day Hanjura has taken over as the Agriculture Minister his performance has been poor and the PDP high command has taken a serious note of his laid back approach. "Hanjura is under tremendous pressure as his department has failed to come up with a comprehensive program for farmers and other people associated with the Agriculture sector," said a source. He said during the past few days Hanjura has raided many Agriculture offices in Kashmir and has allegedly suspended scores of Agriculture Assistants, who have been without salaries for the past 14-months. "Many youth who worked as Rehbar-e-Zirat for years together after getting regularized are without salaries has for more than 14 months. The Agriculture Minister instead of helping them has launched a crusade against them and is on a suspension spree," the source added. He said the fear of suspension and no wages have made the life of the Agriculture Assistants miserable. "There are many burning issues which need to be addressed but it seems the minister first wants to establish his writ like the Health Minister Chaudary Lal Singh," the source added. He said, "Frequent rains and cloudbursts across Jammu and Kashmir this year have hit the agriculture sector very had. Till date no comprehensive plan has been formulated to compensate the farmers who have been suffering huge losses since September 2014 when floods inundated Jammu and Kashmir." Sources revealed that the Agriculture department till date is unaware about the quantum of losses suffered by the farmers. "It seems someone has to remind the minister that Agriculture is the mainstay of JK's economy and if immediate steps are not taken to address the issues confronting the farmers JK's economy could take a serious hit," they added. Insiders revealed that since the day new government has taken over the reins of the state no steps have been taken to seek special package for the farmers and orchard owners from the central government. "It's really unfortunate that Agriculture Minister is taking his own sweet time to address the burning issues. If he continues to remain in slumber there is every possibility of farmers and orchard owners ending up in a mess this year too," they added. When contacted the Agriculture Minister Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura while talking to Early Times rebuffed the reports that he has suspended any Agriculture Assistant. "There has been one case in Chadoora where we placed some people under suspension," he added. On being told that Agriculture Assistants have not received their salaries for the past 14 months, he said, "It's a news to me that they are without their salaries. I will look into the matter." |
