Jammu, Aug 7: To mark National Handloom Day today, 368th Tree Talk was hosted in the SKUAST Sericulture campus Mirgund. As per press release, MSC , BSc students ,research scholars and expert scientists assembled to share inputs on traditional weaving skills ,silkworm rearing methods , improvement of mulberry germplasm and silk fabric linked livelihood incentives and human resource development. Head of Sericulture SKUAST Prof Manzoor Ahmad Malik while welcoming Handloom Day Tree Talk interaction shared that campus has maintained over 62 mulberry accessions including indigenous and exotic varieties suited to the climate of Kashmir.He opined that Social Forestry department need to raise high yielding mulberry plantations around wildlife protected areas to supplement nutritional and silk rearing benefits for the local communities and to boost food for wild animals like palm civets, Black bear, Langurs and macaques. |
