Tainted principal gets plum post despite HC ruling | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 7: In brazen violation of the High Court orders, the Higher Education Department has appointed a tainted professor as principal of a degree college. According to a High Court ruling, if a person is facing serious allegations of corruption, he/she should not be given a public dealing post. A legal expert said that the report of then Vigilance Director which established that the said Professor at the time of him being posted as a Principal of a college in a frontier town in Jammu district caused a monetary loss of Rs 75000 to the state exchequer and it was a fit case for lodging an FIR against the Professor but he with his influence converted into Regular Departmental Action (RDA) where it corruption allegations were also established. "The act of the department under which the Professor has been given the coveted post of the Principal has raised fingers over the criteria and parameters fixed by the government for declaring the corrupt officials as deadwood", said a legal expert adding that why government is showering blessing to him despite the fact that government agency itself established corruption charges against him. Although the Education Department is claiming tall about transparency and initiating steps to end corruption yet in a blatant example of strong roots of corruption in sector already a 'black mole'- the name of already penalized Professor has surfaced this time in the purchase of surplus college infrastructure. If sources are to be believed the commission industry is flourishing in the higher industry and purchase was just done to collect the commission. As per sources, during the tenure of the Professor in question the , purchase committee of leading Science College purchased around 180 iron benches. "There were no need of that quantity but due to the reasons best known to him he allegedly forced the purchase committee to approve the quantity of 180 iron benches", said a senior professor of a college adding that over 150 benches are still gathering dust in the college premises. The Commissioner Higher Education, Sarita Chouhan when contacted stated that there is no guideline to keep the professor out of the public dealing post.
