Nothing for 'ungrateful' BJP to cheer
Struggle for AIIMS
8/7/2015 11:39:10 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Aug 7: The suspension of bandh by the AIIMS Coordination Committee (ACC) on August 5 on the ground that one official in the Union Ministry of Health a day before wrote a vague letter to Jammu & Kashmir Government to identify alternate pieces of land both in Jammu and Srinagar has been taken by the under-severe-attack "ungrateful and mischievous" BJP as its victory. In fact, the BJP has put up big hoardings at different places, which suggest that the Union Health Ministry wrote the letter after the BJP convinced the Government of India of the need to set up an AIIMS in Jammu.
Besides, the same day, the BJP chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi, held a press conference at the party headquarters and declared that the BJP had delivered the promise it had made and BJP leaders and ministers for their role that resulted in what the Union Health Ministry did a day before to defuse the potentially dangerous situation in Jammu region, which had been observing a massive bandh since July 31 and witnessing police-crowd clashes at different places.
The BJP spokesperson didn't censure any of the leaders for their nasty, provocative and anti-Jammu statements regarding the mass movement in Jammu region for AIIMS. While top BJP leader had on April 24 declared that no power on earth could "snatch AIIMS from Kashmir and it will not be established in Jammu", the another BJP leader had insulted the self-respecting and brave people of Jammu region by saying that they were no match to the people of Kashmir and shamelessly taunted the ACC. He had said: "He didn't recognize the ACC. They would not meet ACC members. We didn't ask the ACC leadership to sit on dharna. They would not give anything in writing to the ACC". Interestingly, the senior BJP minister was present when negotiations between some ACC members and BJP ministers and MLAs took place on the issue on August 5, when those ACC members decided to suspend the six-day-old continuous bandh. People of Jammu region would have appreciated Sethi had he also said a word about BJP ministers, who have fallen from grace and become objects of contempt and ridicule in Jammu region.
Anyway, the issue under scrutiny is the manner in which the cornered, ridiculed and virtually excommunicated BJP leaders have been conducting themselves after the ACC suspended bandh. There is nothing for the BJP to cheer about. On the contrary, there is everything negative that must make the BJP leadership sit up, find where they went wrong and review their stand on the sinister agenda of alliance that is the main cause responsible for the prevailing unrest in Jammu region. That the irresponsible, unpopular and insensitive BJP leadership is celebrating something which is not there could be seen from the ongoing chain hunger strike on the issue of AIIMS. Even chairman of the ACC on Thursday said that there were many issues which still remained unresolved and that the BJP had failed to give certain clarifications. The very fact that the chairman of the ACC also said on Thursday at the dharna sthal that the chain hunger strike would continue till the ACC achieved a full-fledged AIIMS for Jammu region should call the BJP bluff and put things in perspective. It was clear from what the ACC chairman said that the ACC still has to walk many miles to reach its goal.
It is pertinent to mention here that it was not because of the pressure from the local BJP leadership that made the Union Government write a letter to the state government. The fact of the matter is that it was the pressure from the agitating people of Jammu region that had brought both the State Government and the Central Government to their knees or it was the people's pressure that left the biased authorities in New Delhi to write that vague letter to the State Government, which said one AIIMS will be established in Jammu & Kashmir and the State Government should identify alternate pieces of land both in Jammu and Srinagar. The BJP leadership should not make a fool itself by celebrating something which is non-existent.
