Omar's attack on Mufti unwarranted
PDP made BJP to fall in line
8/7/2015 11:38:35 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Aug 7: The issueless and directionless working president of the defeated National Conference Omar Abdullah has been unnecessarily denouncing patron of People's Democratic Party and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and charging him with bartering Kashmiri interests for the sake of personal power. Yesterday also, he indulged in PDP bashing and accused it of being an opportunist and an agent of BJP.
"PDP stood formally and publicly exposed as an opportunistic subsidiary of the BJP in J&K and it was now impossible for the party to cover its tracks," Omar Abdullah said while addressing party workers at the launch of NC Membership Drive 2015 in Pulwama and Budgam districts on August 6. "Those in the Valley who had never participated in the electoral process came out to vote in 2014 to keep BJP out of power in the State. Sadly, they were betrayed by PDP's singular obsession with power at any cost. How ironic is it that Mehbooba Mufti went around asking people to vote for PDP in order to keep BJP out of power in the State and then the same Mehbooba Mufti went on to visit Amit Shah's Durbar to seek his blessings for the PDP-BJP alliance", Omar also said.
Omar Abdullah didn't stop just there. He further said: "Despite all our ideological and political differences with PDP, we had offered them our unconditional support with the intention of keeping RSS out of J&K. Tragically however, PDP preferred to embrace RSS and BJP instead. And despite his effortless, complete sell-out for becoming the Chief Minister, Mufti Sayeed has been pushed into a humiliating corner where he has been stripped of all the powers and authority of the Chief Minister's chair".
The charges leveled by Omar Abdullah against Mufti Sayeed are politically motivated and only showed his frustration and desperation. There is no substance whatever in the charges. It appears Omar Abdullah has not studied the PDP-BJP agenda of alliance. Had he even a cursory glance at the agenda of alliance, he would have saluted Mufti Sayeed and those who negotiated power-sharing deal with BJP/RSS leaders like Ram Madhav and not have said what he said on Thursday against Mufti Sayeed.
Mufti and agenda of alliance
The agenda of alliance is a grand victory of Mufti Sayeed and his team. The reason is that the agenda of alliance is virtually a carbon-copy of the PDP's 2014 election manifesto, also called "Aspirational Agenda". It is also a negation of what the BJP preached for more than six decades to prove its pro-Hindu and nationalist credentials.
It was the demand of the PDP that the existing politico-constitutional and administrative set-up or the system as it existed in the state under the divisive Article 370 must be maintained. The BJP instantly and cheerfully conceded the PDP's demand.
It was the demand of the PDP that there must be a dialogue between New Delhi and Pakistan and its agents in Kashmir so that the Kashmir issue was resolved on a permanent basis. The BJP very cheerfully conceded that demand and accepted that Jammu & Kashmir was a "disputed" territory.
It was the demand of the PDP that Army and AFSPA should be withdrawn from the state in phases. The BJP accepted the demand.
It was the demand of the PDP that Kashmiriyat should be given a prominent place in the agenda of alliance. The BJP not only conceded the demand but also refused to incorporate anything about Dogriyat and Ladakhiyat. The BJP was so magnanimous.
It was the demand of the PDP that Jammu region should be described in the agenda of alliance as heterogeneous. The BJP conceded the demand and allowed the PDP to incorporate such geographical expressions in the agenda of alliance as Chenab Valley region and Pir Panjal region, notwithstanding the fact that these were non-existent.
It was the demand of the PDP that the Kashmir issue should be resolved within the parameters of Insaniyat, Kashmiriyat and Jamoohriyat. The BJP accepted the demand and accepted it very cheerfully.
It was the demand of the PDP that it must be given an excessive and preponderant share in the state cabinet and governance of the state. The BJP accepted the demand and reduced the people of Jammu region and itself to a position of nullity for all practical purposes and the BJP did it most cheerfully.
It was the demand of the PDP that the office of the Chief Minister must remain with it for a full term of six years. The BJP accepted the demand, despite the fact that the PDP and the BJP had won an equal number of seats in the Assembly.
But these are only a few of several such instances which serve to prove that Mufti Sayeed got from the BJP almost everything and rendered the BJP irrelevant even in Jammu region. And still, Omar Abdullah accuses Mufti Sayeed of being an opportunist. He would do well to salute the Mufti for the power-sharing deal which was struck between the PDP and the BJP.
