Leh, August 07 : District Administration, Leh today claimed to have successfully rescued a 33 individuals comprising 23 girl students, two teachers from the Holt School, Workingham Berkshire, England, a tour leader and eight locals accompanying the trekking batch from Nagding which was on a trek between Sku-Markha valley. "This group of girl students from the Holt School, Workingham Berkshire, England had come to Leh for social work and adventure tour, an official said further adding that during their trekking in Markha Valley they got stuck up at Nagding because of flash floods in the Markha River due to heavy rainfall on intervening night August 3/4. He said, "On getting a distress call from the group on August 4, District Magistrate, Leh, Saugat Biswas immediately instructed SP, Leh to send State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) team for their rescue. "The rescue team on reaching the spot informed that the rescue is not possible without chopper because the water current was too high and it was not safe to get the stranded foreigner visitors through pully as they are already panicked. Taking prompt action the DM requisitioned Indian Air Force (IAF) chopper to rescue the stranded foreigners and the helicopter was impressed in rescue operation which safely rescued the team back to Leh. Expressing gratitude towards the administration and IAF, Tour leader, Andy said that the rescue operation was timely as soon after our distress call the rescue team reaches to them which was an encouragement to stranded visitors. On reaching Leh district administration accommodated them to Government Guest House, Moonland where they were provided with medical facilities along with a doctor. |
