AIIMS issue: Admin orders removal of tents from dharna site, CC members protest | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 7: The members of Coordination Committee on AIIMS here today staged a protest against the district administration for ordering removal of tents from the dharna site. A police party on the directions issued by the District Magistrate this morning removed the tents, chairs and other items from the site of chain hunger strike. The members of Coordination Committee expressing resentment staged protest and blocked the Tawi bridge and disrupted the traffic. "We had already asked the ACC members to change their site of protest in view on Independence Day ahead due to security reasons," Simrandeep Singh, Deputy Commissioner Jammu told The DC said highway is not meant for protest, adding, "to prevent people from facing inconvenience and keeping in mind the security scenario, the protestors have been asked to vacate the site and shift to another place." Though the AIIMS Coordination Committee had called off the strike following which Jammu returned to normal life but the members continued with the hunger strike demanding separate notification for setting up AIIMS in Jammu.Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Health Choudhary Lal Singh on August 4 had said the Centre has asked the state government to identify 200 acres of land each in both the regions for AIIMS. |
