JAMMU, Aug 9 : Despite promising comfortable stay and other basic amenities to the pilgrims, Amarnath yatra has started declining ahead of Shravan Purnima. Though weather gods played crucial role in demotivating the pilgrims arriving from far off places, poor management of the yatra arrangements in the initial days dampened the spirit of pilgrims. Till date, around 3.39 lakh pilgrims had performed darshan of the ice lingam in the holy cave in South Kashmir Himalayas. An official spokesman said on the 39th day of the ongoing pilgrimage, 1548 yatris paid their obeisance at the holy cave. Till date 3,39,954 yatris have paid obeisance at the Holy Cave". The local businessmen said that bad weather, six-day Jammu bandh, disturbance in Kashmir and incidents of cloud burst had prevented pilgrims from visiting the holy shrine. Another major reason behind sudden decline in the number of pilgrims is presence of ice lingam. After witnessing rush in the initial days the ice lingam gradually started melting away and prevented those scheduled to visit in the later part of the month to visit the shrine. |
