Vacant posts in Jammu police worries scared Jammuites | Post Udhampur attacks | | K Koushal Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 9: In the wake of twin terror attacks in Udhampur, the security agencies have been put on high alert. However, various quarters apprehend that the vacant top rank in Jammu city may prove wider in security risk. The security agencies asserted that if militants managed to strike in Udhampur district where the fleet of top rank officer is completely filled what will happen if such attacks take place as the post of DIG Jammu-Kathua-Samba Range, SSP Jammu and SP South are still lying vacant. Intelligence sources said that some militants who have escaped the radar of security agencies could be hiding in the remote villages of Jammu and Kashmir or in the hutments of populace along the remote villages. Sources further said that a Cabinet Minister is using his political pressure for keeping the post of SSP Jammu vacant so that whenever any mishap took place he will manage his blue-eyed posted as SSP Jammu by the interference of Home Department and later the appointment can be confirmed from the Cabinet. While two terrorists, who attacked the police post in Udhampur district, escaped after injuring two Special Police Officers, the whereabouts of over 12 terrorists who entered India in the past three months are still not known. Sources said that the arrested terrorist Naved alias Usman has told the National Investigation Agency (NIA) that he had crossed over to India with other terrorists. He has also divulged that besides him and his group, 11 other terrorists were also about to cross the border and enter India. Naved has revealed that he and other terrorists had gone to Lal Chowk in Srinagar to receive money. They were even intercepted by the police at that time but they managed to escape. Sources told that these terrorists are possibly hiding among the locals and it could be difficult to identify them. These terrorists speak Kashmiri and look like locals. Intelligence sources said that these terrorists may even have been employed, and they won't be easy to track. Meanwhile, the NIA and security forces have begun combing operations across the entire Valley. The agencies are focusing on Lashkar-e-Taiba Kashmir operative Qasim who remains a mystery man. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have announced a bounty on his head. Security has also been beefed up in the towns located near the Indo-Pak border in Punjab. The police and security agencies are keeping an eye on the hutments of Gujjar tribe who allegedly sympathise with the militants. "The terrorist groups are targeting places that have been relatively peaceful and there were no intelligence inputs of any attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur as these areas were considered to be safe," a senior BSF officer said. The intelligence agencies have already issued an alert about a possible terror strike before or on the Independence Day. |
