Farooq Abdullah, Umar Farooq speak the same language | Batting for Pakistan | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 9: There is no fundamental difference between the rabble-rousing and defeated National Conference and the desperate All-Party Hurriyat Conference (Mirwaiz) as far as their attitude towards Pakistan is concerned. Both the Kashmiri Sunni-dominated and controlled outfits the other day made it loud and clear that they would be one when it comes to Kashmir and Pakistan and that they hold New Delhi responsible for what has been happening in Kashmir and on the international border and Line of Control. Take, for example, what NC president Farooq Abdullah and self-styled chairman of APHC-M Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said about ceasefire violations, Pakistan and New Delhi. Farooq Abdullah on Saturday urged New Delhi to engage Pakistan in a "meaningful" dialogue for ending ceasefire violations, as the people of Jammu and Kashmir along International Border and Line of Control were living under perpetual threat. "Peace would remain a distant dream unless Pakistan army is taken on board in peace process," he said while addressing a public meeting at Surankote (Poonch), and added that he "wondered whether any serious effort is being made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prevail upon Islamabad, as the ground situation on borders continue to be grim". He not only vouched for what he called a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan, but also demanded autonomy for the state. "Ultimately, the end receivers of hostilities between India and Pakistan remain the people of this State. The problem here is to assuage the urges and aspirations of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh and this can be achieved only when autonomy is granted to the State. Weakening of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir from time to time has generated mistrust among the people. Opportunistic politicians remained instrumental in hollowing Article 370 and extension of Central laws," he said. APHC-M chairman Mirwaiz took almost the same line a day before while addressing a gathering on Friday at Jamia Masjid. He said continuous firing on borders had made it evident that resolution of Kashmir issue was the only option of peace between New Delhi and Pakistan. "The constant ceasefire violation at Line of Control (LoC) is a clear indication that Kashmir issue must be resolved to bring peace between India and Pakistan. India cannot be in a denial mode anymore," said Mirwaiz. "Jammu and Kashmir is not the issue of governance and change of government formations was not going to solve its disputed nature. Kashmir is a political issue and India must realize that government formation is not going to solve the issue. People of Kashmir must be given their right to self determination to decide their future," he further said It needs to be underlined that while the NC stands for dialogue with Pakistan and greater autonomy for the state, Mirwaiz also wants New Delhi to engage Pakistan and, at the same time, endorses the four-point Kashmir formula as suggested by former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf as a starting point. The four-point Musharraf formula gives equal sovereign powers to Pakistan with New Delhi in the Indian Jammu and Kashmir and also talks about irrelevant borders, demilitarization and self-governance. To be more precise, both the NC and the APHC (M), like all other Kashmiri parties, the so-called mainstream and separatist, hate the Indian Constitution and long for a dispensation that is outside India. Besides, they consider the people of Jammu and Ladakh irrelevant or no factor in the state's political situation. They want to impose their sectarian and pro-Pakistan ideology on the unwilling people of Jammu region and Ladakh overlooking the fact that the people of these two regions have consistently defeated the separatist and communal ideology of the Kashmiri leadership and forced New Delhi to dilute the atrocious Article 370. It's sad that the BJP of today has fallen in line and adopted a policy that suits the Kashmiri leadership. It is a matter of great satisfaction that the Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party has of late started pursuing a line which the BJP and RSS used to pursue before October 2014, when the Election Commission of India announced poll schedule for electing a new assembly in Jammu and Kashmir. One can only hope that the JKNPP would not ditch the people of Jammu region like the BJP did for the sake of some political power. |
