Heavy rain triggers landslides in various parts of Rajouri | | | Early Times Report Rajouri, Aug 9: Heavy rain since wee hours on Sunday have triggered landslides in various parts of Khawas tehsil in Rajouri district and tehsil headquarter at Khawas has been cut off from rest of the state. Official sources said that more than 6 houses have been fully damaged , 4 water mills have been washed away and hundreds of agriculture land with maize crops have also been either washed away or damaged due to landslides. "No loss of life to human being or to live stock has been reported till the filing of this report but the inhabitants of the tehsil have been complaining of essential commodities including ration, LPG ,kerosene oil and safe drinking water Salem Khan ,sarpanch. Shakeel Singh, senior BJP leader of the area said that all the roads to Khawas tehsil headquarter have been damaged and closed . "For the last more than 28 days major road link between Kotranka (tehsil head quarter) and Khawas tehsil head quarter has been closed following torrential rains. But neither tehsil administration nor district administration bothered to clear the road. No supply of government ration, kerosene oil . LPG etc could be sent to Khawas tehsil due to casual approach of the concerned officials" said Shakeel Singh. He added that now all the roads connecting Khawas tehsil headquarter have been closed due to land sliding and people are running short of food and other essential items. When contacted Sukhdev Singh,SDM admitted that torrential rain followed by flash floods and land slidings have created a havoc in Khawas tehsil and according to information pouring in about 6 houses have been fully damaged , all the roads have been blocked/closed , water mills have been washed away and maze crops have been damaged. "At this juncture we can't move machinery to clear the roads as heavy rain not allowing the machinery and man power to move in these areas. The matter has been taken up with district administration and immediately after the rain stopped the supply of essential commodities will be rushed to all the affected areas" said SDM. Salem Khan, sarpanch said that heavy to very heavy rain that continued from 1 am to 4 am has caused huge loss to property and crops in the Khawas tehsil. Apprehensions of heavy rain have keeping people of the area on tenterhooks and people have migrated to safer places. |
