Additional troops deployed along LoC to check infiltration | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 9: After identifying ingress prone spots on the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir between 5,000 and 7,000 additional troops have been deployed on those spots to plug any loophole so that the level of infiltration of militants dropped to zero. Official circles said that the decision to deploy additional companies of troops on the LOC was taken after the deadly terror strike by two militants on a BSF bus in Udhampur in which two BSF soldiers were killed. The plan to send additional troops on the border also was the outcome of a number of incidents in which Indian soldiers had to get engaged in gun fight with groups of militants in Kupwara,Uri and other sectors including Poonch and Rajouri. In the latest ingress bid one soldier was killed in Kupwara's Tangdhar area on Saturday-Sunday. According to these circles, agencies across the LOC including the Pakistan Army have brought about 400 militants on the launch pads and were trying to carve out a passage for their infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir. It is in this connection that troops, guarding the LoC have been told to intensify round the clock patrolling in order to prevent militants from sneaking into Jammu and Kashmir. Reports said that while these 5000 to 7,000 troops have been shifted from the areas within the state to the LoC additional companies of paramilitary forces were being deployed within the inhabited areas of the state in order to keep a watch on the activities of militants and their harbourers and supporters. In this connection the Union Home Ministry too is reviewing the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in order to send additional BSF companies for upgrading the border management and anti-ingress grid on the 187 KM long International Border. This step was being taken after reports from intelligence agencies indicated that agencies across the border were trying to concentrate on the IB for pushing groups of militants into the Jammu region for raising the level of violence. The entire Srinagar-Jammu highway is being brought under heavy security surveillance in order to prevent militants from repeating last Wednesday's attack on BSF bus. |
