KUPWARA, Aug 9: Foiling an infiltration bid, troops shot dead two Pakistani militants in an encounter near the LoC in Keran sector of Kupwara on Sunday morning. A TA jawan also lost his life while two others got injured in an overnight gun battle with militants in Tangdhar sector here.
According to a senior police officer, in a fresh encounter army on Saturday night intercepted a group of militants near the LoC (Line of Control) in Keran sector of Kupwara district, triggering a fierce gun battle that lasted till Sunday morning in which two Pakistani militants and one army soldier were killed.
"The alert troops guarding the LoC noticed militants who were trying to sneak into this side of the Line of Control (LoC) near Jumagund Nar in Keran sector. The troops challenged the militants who resorted in indiscriminate firing. The troops returned the fire and in the ensuing fresh encounter, two militants were killed," the officer said.
