JAMMU, Aug 27: Son of the soil, noted Cartoonist Chander Shekhar, who has already made a mark in the arena of cartoons and caricature making through his relentless efforts to blend wit with miseries and tribulations persisting in political, social or religious forums in present day world, once again proved his mettle by winning an award in the national level Caricature Contest organized by CCWA Mumbai. His eloquent caricature of legendary novelists and critic Kushwant Singh was aptly awarded among 183 entries from across the nation sketching numerous personalities from various walks of life. The jury team comprised of Sanjeev Wairkar (leading animator), Abid Surti (freelance cartoonist-writer) and Prabhakar Wairkar (Chairman CCWA Mumbai). The adjudicators while judging the caricatures experienced difficulty as the entries were uniformly excellent. "Due to the exceedingly high quality of all the entries, we had to go through most of the works several times over, to arrive at the contest winners. In a way, we also feel very sorry that due to the number constraints of winners, many outstanding pieces of work had to be excluded from the final winners' list", they maintained while announcing the awards. It is pertinent to mention here that Chander Shekhar has number of awards and recognitions to his credit. The most prestigious one is from the President of India Pranab Mukherjee international cartoon exhibition in tribute to RK LAXMAN, 100 year of Charlie Chaplin Maya kamath cartoon exhibition etc for his unique style of depicting most serious situations with wit and satire. |
