Second Pakistani LeT militant captured alive after Naved | Three of his associates killed in encounter | |  S.Tahir-Ul Haq

BARAMULLA, Aug 27: Weeks after Pak Ultra Naveed was nabbed after Udhampur attack on BSF convoy, a Pakistani militant was today captured alive while his three associates were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces here in Baramulla district of North Kashmir. Meanwhile helicopters were pressed into service to prevent the escape of militants. A high rank police official told early Times that, "The security forces has yesterday launched a massive operation in Baramulla district, which started from Lachipora village near Line of Control in Bijhama Uri to Rafiabad area, following information about the presence of a group of 4-5 heavily armed militants in the particular area. "Based on intelligence inputs about presence of militants in the forested area of Rafiabad, at Kazinag Dhar Ridge, a search operation was launched by the Army on August 24 to nab the hiding militants from the area, said official. Official said that one militant was killed yesterday late evening while three of their associates were killed today afternoon in a gun battle with security forces in Rafiabad area. Meanwhile one soldier was also injured yesterday in the gunfight was moved to the Army hospital for advanced treatment, whose condition is stable now. Police and army's 46 RR along with the additional reinforcement of 17 Jak Rif , 4 Para, 35 RR had intercepted the group of militants after it fled from Bijhama Uri while one of their associate was gunned down in the Lchipora area on Wednesday, said official. Meanwhile Deputy Inspector General of Police north Kashmir range, Garib Dass told Early Times that, "Four militants who had escaped from the encounter site were intercepted by the joint team of army's 32 RR, 9 Para, police and SOG in the forests of Rafiabad after two days, among which three militants were killed while one was captured alive after the gunfight DIG said that after a deliberate operation by the Army and JKP which lasted till today afternoon, three more militants were eliminated while one militant was captured alive along with recovery of huge cache of war like stores which include four AK- 47 Rifles and two UBGLs. A Pakistani LeT militant Sijad Ahmad, 22 alias Abu Abidullha of Muzaffargarh Pakistan, was nabbed after an overnight encounter near the Line of Control (LoC) in Daniwar area of Rafiabad in Baramulla district. The arrested militant has been sent for questioning, said official, adding while as the identities of the three slain militants are being ascertained, gunfight ended and the search operation is still going on in the area, till the last reports came in, Dass added. It is pertinent to mention here that, the capture of militant today in Rafiabad came after three weeks when a Pakistani militant Mohammad Naveed alias Usman was nabbed alive by VDC members in Udhampur who had attacked a BSF convoy on Aug 3, in which one of his associate was gunned down and two BSF personnel were killed in an encounter. |
