Basohli Aug 27: At a time when the State government is contemplating to develop various tourist destinations across Jammu Kashmir with high-standards and infrastructure, the Basholi the picturesque place in Kathua district is virtually turning into a garbage den owing to absence of proper surveillance and staff.
"Neglect of the panoramic roadside reflects the apathy of the authorities that has left much of the public utility space littered with trash and garbage and also is raising questions about the accountability of concerned authorities," locals said, while alleging, "the panoramic view point on the Basohli Bani road, hardly 100 metres away from bus stand, offices of Tehsildar, SDM, police station and Munsif Court in Basohli has been converted into dumping site."
They lamented that this view point which welcomes every new comer to this region with stinking ambience but authorities are in deep slumber.
They satirically said that it is encouraging that entire nation is committed to translate PM Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in to reality but the brazen attitude of Municipal Committee Basohli has sent a completely different message.
According to locals, the entire road stretch near 'view point' present a gory and stinky look piles of garbage including body parts of butchered animals littered all along.
"Drivers enroute especially halt here to glace the meandering river amid the green patches of surrounding while majority of locals also used to visit this place for evening and morning walk but now the number of regular walkers is declining courtesy apathetic approach of Municipal Committee Basholi towards this picturesque view point which now has been reduced to only a garbage dumping site.
Meanwhile florescent welcome hoarding installed by Lakhanpur Sarthal Development Authority (LSDA) holding its head high amid the piles of garbage itself is making mockery of the welcome graffiti stating 'welcome to lands of world famous Pashmina and Basholi paintings' but the official at the helms of affairs in Municipal Committee Basohli cares least to this and is lying in deep slumber. Locals now are anchoring their hopes to district administration to give a pinch to Municipal Committee Basholi to wake it and remind it of its contribute towards the nationwide Swach Bharat Campaign.
