Iqbal Khandey a politician in making? | NC, Congress likely to hook him | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 27: As Chief Secretary Iqbal Khandey is all set to bid adieu to his post, the opposition parties Congress and National Conference are trying their best to lure him with a high post in their respective organisations. Sources said that Khandey who expressed his resentment against some ministers has been approached by some NC and Congress leaders here, asking him to join their parties. He is being promised an important position within the party. Though there has been no formal meeting over the issue between the NC leadership and Khandey but all attempts are being made by the party to ensure that Khandey remains in good relations with the NC. Sources also revealed that it was the National Conference regime who after 2009 elevated Khandey to the key post- making him the babu of all babus in JK. He also is believed to have good relations with the former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and some of the Ministers of the previous coalition government. Meanwhile, sources also informed that the simmering tensions that were witnessed between the Chief Secretary and Mufti led coalition was also due to the fact that some ministers of the present PDP-BJP coalition were apprehensive of Kahndey's good relations with the former chief minister Omar Abdullah. Now when differences between the government and Khandey have come to fore in open, NC has started making attempts to achieve a major fleet in succeeding to get Kahndey on board. Party sources said that Khandey being the veteran of the JK administration could play a major role in guiding the party over how the play opposition role in more mature way. "He is the person who can corner this government over any administrative issue. He has in him that ability to identify the wrongs and rectify the same," one of the NC leader said. Earlier, there were reports that a group of ministers met the Chief Secretary at his official chamber in civil secretariat here on Wednesday, trying to convince him to take back his decision of seeking VRS and also to save the government from an embarrassment tha tit had to face due to the issue. Sports Minister Imran Ansari, Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu and Revenue Minister Javaid Mustafa Mir were instructed, as per reports, by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to talk to Khanday and make him to take back his decision. However, Khandey remained adamant over not to continue. Khanday who applied for VRS was reportedly miffed by the Government for promoting junior officers as seniors during the recent cabinet meeting. Khanday, as per sources, has said that he had felt "deeply humiliated" with the government decision of promoting juniors as seniors during a cabinet meeting which he could not attend due to a death of his close relative. CS, as per sources, has also conveyed his displeasure to the visiting ministers about the urgency with which government has promoted the junior officers as seniors. |
